The ancient Egyptian calendar consists of twelve months, each with 30 days and each month containing three weeks of 10 days, then five days of public holidays to bring the year to 365 days. These holidays, called the epagomenal days constituted the birth days of Asar, Aset, Heru, Neb Het and Set; the children of Geb and Nut. Thus, in mythological terms, when Geb and Nut gave birth to the Divinities they also gave birth to the months and days of the week to cause the environment to be developed whereby the human soul can work out its evolution. In as such, the days of the month are also Divinities and the days and nights are actually phenomenal expressions of Geb and Nut. Thus, the days of the week are also Divinities in that they are expressions of the Ultra Divine. Therefore, in the Kemetic teachings and culture there are monthly observances as well as daily observances to pacify and propitiate the cosmic forces that allow for the harmonious movement of the universe including the annual behavior of the Nile River from its rise and fall and then to rise again.
